Setting A Shower Drain

Remove the gasket before the shower base is set.
Setting a shower drain. Mark the center of each wall stud on the shower pan rim. First connect the linear shower drain to the drainage pipe and make sure that the drain pipe has sufficient slope. Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the top flange of the shower drain opening then insert the drain assembly into the opening.
Screw the drain fitting onto the base and make sure that it is tight. Standard slope for a shower floor is 4 percent or 1 2 inch per every 12 inches from a wall to the drain. Mark the outline of the shower pan on the subfloor using pencil or a chalk line.
You will later screw the shower pan into the wall studs. Check the water tightness of the shower drain and connection to the sewer to eliminate leaks. Keep the type of shower door in mind when deciding on the right shower pan size.
Remove the base and install the shower drain fitting into the opening in the shower base. Attach the drain fitting into the shower base. Apply plumber s putty to the bottom of the flange on the drain fitting before installing it.
Select a shower base that has the drain located at one end right or left chosen to match your old tub drain. Slide the drain in the connector it is not necessary to glue this as the connector provides sufficient sealing. After the shower base is set lubricate the gasket with plumber s soap and slide it into place between the drain body and the pipe.
Since the drain position roughly matches the tub drain you may not have to add a separate vent cut out and patch the floor or reroute the drain line. Pre drill holes through the shower pan rim at the marked locations. Put the rubber sealing washer and cardboard friction washer over the drain assembly tailpiece from under the shower base.
